Big Doods
Our Story
Hello! I'm Melissa, and together with my husband Todd and our daughter Ella, we run Big Doods. My journey started years ago when my mom brought home the incredible giant, fluffy Old English Sheep, Minnie. I instantly realized that life wouldn't be complete without one (or even five)! As a full time inner-city paramedic, my dogs are my escape and relaxation. I wanted to share the boundless love and joy that dogs bring. Our adventurous family found that doodles combine best traits of both breeds: the spirited poodle and the affectionate Old English Sheepdog, giving us a versatile farm dog. This is where our adventure began, and I feel fortunate to have my family fully on board!
Our Purpose
We began by carefully selecting parents based on their temperament. All our dogs undergo health testing and must be friendly with other dogs and small children, as the safety of our grandchildren is paramount. Trainability is essential; our dogs live on a farm with our Arabian horses and occasional newborn foals, so we need to trust them to protect their herd without causing harm. This commitment has many of our puppies becoming successful therapy and service dogs. We also provide puppies to children with autism who have an active trainer. Receiving updates from families about the positive impact our puppies have made is incredibly rewarding. We’ve found the F1b Pyredoodle to be particularly successful in these homes and look forward to expanding this aspect of our program.
Our Promise
Once you obtain one of our doodles, we stick with you throughout the lifetime of your dog. We make ourselves available 24/7 for any questions, issues, or advice. If there is a life changing event that forces you to have to rehome your dog, we will take him/her back, no questions asked and no judgement. This ensures the best for your dog at a difficult time.
